Cause of Boiler Slagging

Boiler Slagging has many causes, and the most important ones are as follows.

1. The impact from coal type

The cause of boiler slagging has a direct relationship with coal type. If coal is of poor quality and large ash content, it is easy to form coking.

2. The impact from pulverized coal quality

Serious wear of steel ball of coal mill, blockage of separator, wear of medium-speed grinding roller, and speed of rotary separator will lead to the reduction of pulverized coal output. The reduced quality of pulverized coal fails to guarantee safety, temperature and efficient transportation. Late adding of pulverized coal makes furnace maintain high temperature for a long time, thus the ash softens and liquefies.

3. The impact from furnace temperature

The higher the furnace temperature, the easier it is for the ash to reach a softened state or molten state. The greater the possibility of slagging formation. The higher the temperature in the combustion zone, the stronger the gasification of the volatile substances.

4. The impact from the ratio of air to coal

The flue gas in the induced draft fan is high-temperature flue gas with a large amount of ash and impurities. Therefore, if the air pressure of ID fan is insufficient, the ash will not be sucked out. It will be softened and liquidized by high temperature, which creates conditions for slagging.

5. The impact from pulverized coal concentration and fineness

The quality of pulverized coal will also cause the production of slagging.

6. The impact from heat load

The heat load of furnace volume, furnace section and combustion area, as well as the geometric size of furnace all have an impact on boiler slagging.

7. The impact from soot blower

If the soot blower stops using for a long time, the dust accumulation on the heating surface will gradually increase. The ash will soften and liquidize due to high temperature and oxygen deficiency, which will lead to coking.

8. The impact from ash fusion point

The root cause of coking is that the ash in molten state deposits on the heating surface. The ash fusion point is the key to coking. The lower the ash fusion point, the easier it is to slag on the heating surface.
